Month: December 2018

Holiday Season with Knacker’s Yard

November was a busy month for us, averaging 5 shows a week! Highlights included a very successful first weekend at the Whistler Dubh Linn Gate, an epic dance party at the Whale Rub Pub on Malcolm Island, two packed and raucous shows in Nanaimo, a brilliant sold-out concert at the Ground Zero Acoustic Lounge in Parksville (where we’ll certainly be returning to play again), and of course our usual Monday and Wednesday nights at the Irish Times which have continued to be well-attended by regulars and newcomers alike. Rowdy audience participation is at an all-time high with lots of dancing and singing along to our old classic tunes, as well as some new songs we’ve just started playing: “Dicey Reilly” and “Seven Drunken Nights” made famous by Ronnie Drew of the Dubliners, and “A Pair of Brown Eyes” written and performed by Shane MacGowan of The Pogues.

We also recorded a session album in New Westminster with Len Osanic of Fiasco Brothers Recording Studio which we hope to release as an album before Christmas! And in other merch news, we have just had our most recent album Gangers, Chancers and the Craic sell out (that’s 1000 copies sold since July!) and have just had it re-pressed. We are also now selling sweatshirts and long sleeves with our new design. Be sure to come down to a show and check them out!

December is looking to be just as busy! We have another weekend away in Whistler to look forward to, a string of shows on the mainland in Chilliwack and Vancouver, and our debut performance on Bowen Island on December 15th. That will be followed by a Celtic dance party in Port Alberni on December 21st and a Solstice celebration on December 22nd in Ucluelet. We’ll be at the Irish Times for Christmas Eve which promises to be a very popular and rousing show, and will be playing Protection Island to ring in the New Year. Come along to any of our shows this month and you can hear us doing  our favourite Christmas hit “Fairytale of New York” by the Pogues with Kirsty MacColl. We’re looking forward to seeing our fans come out, get festive and sing along! Happy holidays!
